I love how everyone is acting like this is an ironic story. A group of Jewish folks were apparently attacked on NYC subway train for responding with 'Happy Chanukah' to a group of about 10 people who were saying 'Merry Christmas.' A young man witnessed the assault and decided to intervene. Now he's being hailed as a hero, but not for just intervening...for happening to identify as Muslim.
First off, this happened in America. I haven't heard much about American Muslims beheading people on American soil. The Muslims here don't call for people to be killed over naming a teddy bear Mohammad. Apparently, this is the kind of guy that he is. I don't think Allah spoke to him and instructed him to help.
So, I find it most amusing that this publication takes it even further by driving home that the assailants were supposedly Christians... Christians attacking Jews over Jesus's crucifixion and being rescued by a Muslim. What a joke. Christians? I wish I could find the part in the Bible about Jesus wailing on people for pissing him off. That'd be hot.
Alarabyia.net spins it this way:
A Muslim boy is being touted as a "hero" after he saved a group of young Jewish subway-goers from a brutal beating by a gang of Christian thugs in New York, press reports said Wednesday.
The incident took place last Friday night, when 23-year old Jewish man, Walter Adler, boarded a New York subway train with three female friends.
According to Adler, someone in another group wished them "Merry Christmas" and he and his friends replied, "Happy Hanukkah."
Soon, the group of about 14 Christian men and women attacked the Jewish group, calling them "dirty Jews" and "Jew bit***s," the New York Post reported.
"They grabbed me and punched and beat me up," Askari said. "I didn't get a chance to punch him back," the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.
Askari's interference allowed Adler to pull the emergency brake, which alerted police to trouble on the train, the paper said.
Askari, who was left with two black eyes and a sore nose, said he has no regrets: "I just did what I had to do…My parents raised me that way."
I love how Askari is described as a 'Muslim boy'. It gets better, though, the only Jewish male victim is a clown-pants:
The Jewish victim Adler said he was amazed by Askari's bravery: "A random Muslim guy jumped in and helped a Jewish guy on Hanukkah - that's a miracle."
Adler said he and his friends might have been beaten to death, but for Hassan: "He was the only person to help us…He's basically a hero," said Adler, who also suffered a broken nose and required four stitches to close a lip wound.
It's a miracle? You're in America! However, if this had happened in the Middle East or Northern Africa -- then it perhaps would have been a miracle. Cause the Muslims would've have probably helped tear you and your friends apart and then turned on the 'Christians.'
I just wish someone had described what the scene looked like. Were these players really the only ones on the train? Or did everyone else on the train scurry to one end and just watch? Since this is New York, but more specifically planet Earth, I'll say the later scenario is the case.
